Abstract
Introduction: Poor vulvar hygiene behaviour during menstruation can cause pruritus vulvae symptoms such as an itching sensation that triggers the urge to scratch. Pruritus vulvae can be caused by a variety of factors including bacterial and fungal infections that can develop if vulvar hygiene behaviour is not performed properly. It can also be caused by irritation from feminine products that contain chemicals. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between vulvar hygiene behaviour during menstruation and symptoms of pruritus vulvae in adolescent girls at SMP eLKISI Kab. Mojokerto. Methods: Analytical research design with a cross sectional approach. Sample size of 40 adolescent girls with consecutive sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The independent variable in this study was vulva hygiene behaviour during menstruation and the dependent variable was pruritus vulvae symptoms. Results: Data analysis using Fisher's Exact Test with a significance p value of 0.003 < ɑ 0.05 shows that there is a relationship between vulvar hygiene behaviour during menstruation with pruritus vulvae symptoms in adolescent girls at SMP eLKISI Kab. Mojokerto. Adolescent girls have sufficient vulvar hygiene behaviour during menstruation 20 adolescents (50.0%), and adolescent girls who experience moderate pruritus vulvae symptoms 19 adolescents (47.5%). Conclusion: So the better the behaviour of vulvar hygiene during menstruation in adolescent girls, the lighter the level of pruritus vulvae symptoms. However, vulvar hygiene behaviour during menstruation is not the only factor affecting the occurrence of pruritus vulvae symptoms. Therefore, it is expected that young women always maintain the health of their female areas.
