Abstract

The risk of falls is a serious health problem for the elderly, often leading to physical injuries such as wounds, fractures, and even fatal outcomes. Additionally, this condition can cause other impacts like chronic pain, limited mobility, and a slow recovery process, ultimately leading to dependency on others for daily activities. This study aims to identify the causative factors of fall risk among the elderly at UPTD Griya Wreda Jambangan Surabaya, including intrinsic, extrinsic, and situational factors. The research utilized a descriptive method with a cross-sectional design and a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling approach, involving a total sample of 81 elderly individuals. Data was collected using a fall risk questionnaire developed by Sutomo (2011) and was analyzed descriptively using tables and percentages. The results regarding the causative factors of fall risk at UPTD Griya Wreda Jambangan Surabaya showed that for intrinsic factors, most of the elderly with heart conditions (79.1%) were at risk of falling. For extrinsic factors, the majority of the elderly who did not engage in physical activity (61.8%) were at risk. For situational factors, most of the elderly who perceived their environment as unsafe (87.6%) were at risk. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for developing effective intervention programs to reduce the risk of falls in the elderly.
