Abstract

Diabetes mellitus remains a primary health issue worldwide, including in Indonesia, due to the continuously increasing number of cases. Diabetes mellitus can occur in any age group, including children, adolescents, and adults. The purpose of this study is to determine the knowledge of adolescents about the prevention of diabetes mellitus, to identify their knowledge about healthy eating patterns related to sugar consumption, and to identify their level of knowledge about healthy lifestyles related to physical activity. This study uses a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach. A quantitative research design is a type of research that uses measurement procedures or other methods. This study used a cross-sectional approach, which is a type of research that is conducted only once without any follow-up. The results of the study conducted at SMAN 1 Lamongan show that students' understanding of diabetes mellitus in general is in the good category. Most students have good knowledge about diabetes mellitus, including dietary prevention (especially sugar consumption) and healthy lifestyles such as physical activity. However, there are still a small number of students who have adequate knowledge levels, and some even have insufficient knowledge in all four aspects.
