Abstract
Circulatory disorders in the lower extremities are a common complication in patients with diabetes mellitus. This condition can increase the risk of infection and wounds that are difficult to heal in the area. Lack of physical activity or sedentary behavior is one of the factors that can worsen lower extremity circulation disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the relationship between sedentary behavior and lower extremity circulation in patients with diabetes mellitus at the internal medicine polyclinic of RSI Sakinah Mojokerto. The design of this study uses correlational analytics with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study amounted to 43 respondents who were in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Where the statistical test used for this study is the Spearman Rho test. The results showed that most of the respondents had sedentary behavior in the moderate category, namely 24 respondents (55.8%). The results of the Spearman Rho correlation test showed p value = 0.013 and r = 0.376, indicating a significant relationship between sedentary behavior and lower extremity circulation in patients with diabetes mellitus at the internal medicine polyclinic of RSI Sakinah Mojokerto. The value of the correlation coefficient is included in the category of low correlation degrees and positive relationship direction. This means that the higher the sedentary behavior, the greater the tendency for extremity circulation disorders. Sedentary behavior can interfere with insulin secretion and trigger insulin resistance, thereby increasing blood sugar levels. If it lasts for a long time, it can cause circulation disorders, especially in the lower extremities.
